Independent Depression

I'm rather new to this blog thing. One thing I did not realize is that all new stuff shows up on top. So if I'm trying to write things in order you may not get to read them that way. My apologies. I had no idea I had so many things to say.

Weird Tastes in Music? *I* don’t think so

Okay, so my all time favorite bands are (not in any particular order) Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and….drum roll…… the Monkees.  Closely accompanied by AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Tool, but don’t forget the Police (Sting is sooo yummy) and Depeche Mode.  Hmmm, this probably stereotypes me.  [However, it does kind of shatter that “other” pigeonhole people like to place me in when they learn I own horses, don’t cut my hair and drive a big diesel truck.  I detest 99% of pop-country music.]

Why the Monkees?  Heck, I can’t explain it.  Pete insists with disdain that they are a non-band, not a “real” musical entity, because the members didn’t come together in the usual way, i.e. to make music.  Instead they are a “made-up” pop group for TV (ugh, somewhat like the Partridge Family now that I think of it ….eeeuuuuuwwww); and Neil Diamond wrote their smash (recently remade) hit “I’m A Believer”.  Does that make me adore them any less?  No way.  I love to listen to Micky Dolenz be-bopping to  “Going Down”.  And yes, I was one of those 11-year-olds in love with Davey Jones, so what?  Their music is (was?) lighthearted and charming.  I can’t help but sing and dance along, and mentally bless Randy, who bought me a four-CD box set for Christmas one fine year.

Sabbath’s “Fairies Wear Boots” contains the ultimate guitar riff.  I want to do traditional dressage (very advanced horse riding usually performed to classical music) and use this tune.  That would just blow a horse trainer’s mind.

In reality there is a lot of music that I truly enjoy.  “Picture” (Kid Rock’s duet with Sheryl Crow) brings an ache to my heart every time.

Living my life in a slow hell
different girl every night at the hotel
I ain’t seen the sun shine in 3 damn days
been fuelin’ up on cocaine and whiskey
wish I had a good girl to miss me
but I wonder if I'll ever change my ways
I put your picture away
sat down and cried today
I can’t look at you while I'm lying next to her
I put your picture away
sat down and cried today
I can’t look at you while I'm lying next to her

I called you last night in the hotel
everyone knows but they won’t tell
but there half hidden smiles tell me somethin’ just ain’t right
I've been waiting on you for a long time
fuelin’ up on heartaches and cheap wine
I ain’t heard from you in 3 damn nights
I put your picture away
I wonder where you've been
I can’t look at you while I'm lyin’ next to him
I put your picture away
I wonder where you've been
I cant look at you while I'm lyin’ next to him

I saw you yesterday with an old friend
it was the same old same how have you been
since you've been gone my worlds been dark and gray
you reminded me of brighter days
I hope to be coming home to stay
I was headed to church
I was off to drink you away
I thought about you for a long time
can't seem to get you off my mind
I can’t stand why we’re living life this way
I found your picture today
I swear I'll change my ways
I just called to say I want you to come back home
I found your picture today
I swear I'll change my ways
I just called to say I want you to come back home
I just called to say I love you
come back home
